2008-2009 Information
  • Applications for the 2008-2009  are currently available.  Download the application.
  • Eligibility: Must be 13 years old by September 30. 2008 (no exceptions), a member of good standing in his/her school music program (if the school has a music program), and pass the audition.


  • Applications are available from May to August 15, 2008. They may be downloaded from this site or obtained from the ASO offices at 1280 Peachtree Street, Suite 4074.  Please call 404-733-4870 or email Melanie Darby.

  • There is a non-refundable application fee of $30.00.
  • Application and fee must be received before audition excerpts can be sent out. The excerpt list for each instrument for 2008-2009 will be available on our website in June 2008 however copies of the excerpt music are available by mail only.  Excerpts will be mailed to applicants within two weeks of receipt of application and fee.  We do not fax excerpts.  Audition excerpts are not available until mid-June.   • Applications must be postmarked by the Friday August 15, 2008 or they will not be considered.

  • Auditions take place in early - mid September. Notification of audition date and time will be mailed and emailed no later than August 25, 2008.  Please make sure we have an accurate email address on file for you.

  • Should you choose not to audition after you have applied, please call 404-733-4870 or email the ASYO Office to cancel your audition.  Failure to appear without notice at a scheduled audition will cause your 2008-2009 application to be rejected.  You may re-apply for the 2009-2010 season.

  • Chosen alternates will not participate in seating auditions. Alternates are called in when a current member is unable to fulfill his or her membership obligations. This may be for one concert or for the remaining season.  ASYO Alternates are not required to pay tuition and do not receive the privileges of full membership unless called upon to permanently replace a current member.

  • Audition results will be mailed the week of   September 19, 2008 and will be posted on the website after 5pm on Monday following the final audition date. No audition results will be given out by phone (no exceptions).
  • Tuition for the 2008-2009 season will be $350.00 per student.  This is payable in two installments of $175.00 due in September and January.

Please note that this is a list of the required excerpts only.  Copies of the audition excerpts are provided to all applicants by the ASYO office.  Audition excerpts change annually.

Elinor Rosenberg Breman

ASYO Fellowship

The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra has enriched the lives of Atlanta's young musicians for more than thirty years. ASO Board member Elinor Breman made a generous gift to open the door to this extraordinary musical experience for any student demonstrating the desire and the aptitude to hold a chair in the ASYO. She endowed the Elinor Rosenberg Breman ASYO Fellowship, a needs-based program providing ASYO tuition scholarships for up to five musicians a year.

 

Applications will be accepted annually from any student who qualifies for a position in the ASYO. For more information, please click here.
